If your pilot light keeps going out, or if your burner won’t stay lit, then its best to clean the thermocouple first when troubleshooting. When the thermocouple is dirty, it won’t produce enough voltage to open the gas valve, this will cause the pilot light to go out after you release the bypass button. If the furnace still doesn’t stay lit after cleaning, then its best to install a new thermocouple.
